KTA PHILIPPINES Powered by AQUA Boracay

LAST DAY OF COMPETITIONS: A RACE TO THE FINISH with COURSE RACING, AWARD CEREMONIES and AFTER PARTY (January 15)
By Freida Dario (KTA Philippines Correspondent)

With winds dropping to 12 knots, the Skippers meeting pronounced all racing, starting off with Twin Tip (TT), back to back with Race Board (RB) racing at KTA Philippines’ Final Day of Competitions (Day Four) powered by AQUA BORACAY – Absolute Beachfront Apartments (www.aquaboracay.com)!

Sounding off the horn at 10AM, two successful races of TT had adrenalines pumping, with kiteboarders racing not only against each other, but challenging the wind to pick up and sustain the unabated race momentum! Right before noon, the race was captured with breathtaking aerial shots by Alexandru Baranescu, and incredible video footage by Jim Thirionfrom a helicopter, so stay posted for those!

When the wind dropped, one good RB race ensued until the wind decided to call it a day for everyone at 3PM. Talk about the “wacky races”, it was one hell of a way to cap the four days of intense competitions!

Rather than feeling disappointed, participants welcomed the downtime for some quality chill out beach time, with a nice cool breeze and a golden sun – quite the perfect pairing with an iced cold bottle of brew, don’t you think? If you’re wondering about the cool DJ mixes playing all week, the tunes were by Italian DJ Jon Bellagamba, courtesy of KTA’s Willy Kerr. Did we mention the chic 100-meter beachfront set-up? Special thanks to AQUA Boracay for their über style and class, and generous hospitality all the way!

With everybody happy, the sunny happiest ones at today’s top rankings are as follows: TT Men’s Course Race: (1st) Kerem Bailk (Turkey), (2nd) Doque de los Santos (Philippines), (3rd) Ryan Cahilig (Philippines), (4th) Bobo Corniel (Dominican Republic), (5th) Anthony Martinez (Philippines), and (6th) Stefano Ganugi (Philippines). RB Men’s Course Race:(1st) Salih Cakir (Turkey), (2nd) Ken Nacor (Philippines), (3rd) Taner Aykurt (Turkey), (4th) Sugiraha Kazumasa (Japan), (5th) Keewan Kwon (Korea), and (6th) Ejder Ginyol (Turkey). A tip for future competitions, please do register your kites and your boards to avoid disqualifications. That said, “it’s all fair in love and war” – or at the KTA, in fun and fair game. Congratulations to all the winners, who will receive their much-deserved awards at ceremonies tonight at the beachfront of SAND BAR on Boracay’s magnificent White Beach!

The evening’s celebrations are sponsored by CABRINHA, from the hog roast pig feast, to the ice luge drink fest and tattoo artist who will paint you for the party at JUNGLE BAR!By the way, tonight’s party at Jungle Bar is open to ALL, riders, spectators and groupies alike, with zero cover charge! In the level playing field of Boracay Island’s party playground, everybody wins, but if you snooze, you lose! So put your party face on boys and girls!

The perfectly uneventful post-race afternoon was indeed the ideal “calm before the storm”, in preparation for the evening’s libations, and as KTA Tour Director (by day) and KTA Party Piper (by night) Willy Kerr puts it, “This is gonna be messy! Now strap on your dancing shoes, we gonna party Jungle Bar & Boracay style!” With Moscow’s legendary DJ Spy.der [>@8A !?0945@ (Boris Spyder)] and Boracay homeboy DJ Erwin Edralin of the legendary Hey Jude Bar Boracay on the decks until sunrise! Got shades? Bring them!

Congratulations to KTA Philippines, and to everyone who came to compete, play, watch, and join the fun, you rocked Boracay!
