Nearing the end of the 2012 season, no location could be more fitting for such a momentous event than the land where kites were invented over 3,000 years ago. This region of the country is more than just a windy kite destination; in fact, many refer to it as the “Hawaii of China”, as it is defined by its extraordinary scenic beauty and abundance of lush landscapes.

This tropical oasis, which is surrounded by some 200 islands, remains a well known and highly visited tourist attraction. Hainan Island, which translates to “south of the sea” is located in the South China Sea, and will provide both freestyle and racing competitors the ultimate conditions for battling it out in this landmark event. The best riders in the world will descend on this faraway region and begin competition on November 12th through the 18th.

With the battle for World Championship titles incredibly close, the stakes are higher than ever. Top contenders including Alex Pastor (ESP), Youri Zoon (NED), Gisela Pulido (ESP), Bruna Kajiya (BRA), and many more, will all vie for top positioning in order to have the greatest advantage going into the last event of the year in New Caledonia.
